The two loops would be removed from the necklace and used as earrings. Later, the jacla were just left on the necklace and so was born a style of jacla necklace.
The tips of the jacla loops are often of a contrasting color or different stone, most likely spiney oyster or white shell as seen here. This very traditional style is worn both by men and women and is possibly from as early as 1950's.
