From a Tucson estate some years ago (or perhaps "discovered" in one of the fabled long gone downtown curio shops right here in the Old Pueblo) is this visually captivating I believe 1930's or so Navajo Fred Harvey era ingot silver ring with an attractive Arizona petrified wood set, construction features fully indicative of a making in those times. This ring approaches though does not fully embrace the so called Fred Harvey style, that conceived as a more wearable alternative to traditional tribal adornment. In this case the ingot metal and certainly the classical silver drop embellishment to the split fingers of the shank - three to one side while only two appear to have ever graced the other, reference an earlier aesthetic. The pulled draw plate spiral wire framing is another indication this was crafted by a maker still in touch with the old ways.

Only the petrified wood stone makes this an "Indian Detour" proposition. That said, there is plenty of visual charisma and a distinctly vintage look - apparently the work of a skilled tribal artisan who must have catered to the whims and aesthetic demands of his local clientele as well as the new audience. Weight is good for the form at about 7 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine though not absolutely pristine perfect, with a nice aura of time to the silver surfaces as seen in the pics.

The petrified wood is well preserved and just lovely. There is an ancient solder separation at the join of one finger of the split shank to the plate (behind a silver drop) to mention for accuracy, having no impact on use and just as worn about in the long ago. All other typical and expected signs of period duty are here simply simply more evidence of the history.

A look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - for those who know, a compelling genuinely old Southwestern tribal finger ornament. Ring size is about 11 1/4 on my jeweler's ring mandrel (the bottom edge of the shank reaches that line on the mandrel). The front plate is about 27/32 in.

Horizontal, measured at the spiral wire framing. If you prefer earlier 20th Century historic Southwestern Navajo and Pueblo silver adornment and can understand the allure of the "look", or simply wish a single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
